The School of Tomorrow — Building the Future Education scenario

--

Will students have classes outside of school? Armed with different devices, listening/watching a teacher of the subject of your choice? And will your skills no longer be assessed in the form of paper tests, but based on your performance in the field? What am I talking about? Welcome to the future of education!

As technology is rapidly transforming the world around us, many people are concerned that it will replace human intelligence. Some educators have even said that there will not be enough students to teach. Others say the technology will replace the teacher in the classroom, as it can take on their tasks and skills. The point is: education will never disappear. But, it will take different forms. I will exemplify some possible changes that will shape the future of education in the next 20 years.

Diversity of Time and Space
Students will have more opportunities to learn at different times and in different places. eLearning tools, for example, facilitate learning opportunities. Classes will have a different format: the theoretical part will be learned outside the classroom and the practice will be taught face to face, interactively. Field experience will be emphasized in all courses. Schools will provide more opportunities for students to obtain real skills that are representative of their future jobs. This means that the curriculum will create more space for students to carry out internships, orientation projects, and collaboration projects, in companies, from high school for example.

Personalized study and free choice
Students will learn with study tools that adapt to their choices and abilities. This means that students will have a personalized study, focused on their multiple intelligences. This can result in more positive learning experiences and decrease the number of students losing confidence in their academic skills. In addition, teachers will be able to clearly see which students need help and in which areas.

Although the subjects that are taught aim at the same destination, the road that takes them can vary from student to student. Students will learn with different devices, programs, and techniques, according to their own preferences. Mixed learning and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) form an important feature within this change.

Evidence and Assessments will change completely
Course platforms will assess students’ skills at each stage, from start to completion. Daily. Weekly. Monthly. In a way that you will not only evaluate with a grade but will also be able to measure all your learning and the application of your knowledge. Not just a day, or a week of testing, but the process itself.

Mentoring will become an even more important tool
Mentoring is an English term, usually translated as mentoring or mentoring. It is a development tool and consists of an experienced person helping another less experienced person. In 20 years, students will incorporate so much independence into their learning process that guidance will be essential to their success. Teachers guiding students. Students guiding students.

THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION IS NOW!

The urgency to transform the classroom to keep up with technological trends has therefore been recognized and is being implemented in one of the 11 shifts listed in the world education plan. In a world where you need to be literate in digital technology and have daily news to stay ahead, educators need more than ever to be trained in their mission to inspire students. Several points were made at the recent Asia Leadership Summit, held in Singapore, which brought together senior education leaders, professionals, and industry experts from across Asia to discuss the topic “Transforming the Future of Education”. With economies now much more oriented towards technology and services, it is necessary to think differently about classroom teaching and to make collaboration and creativity essential to the learning experience.

The reality is that the workforce is fundamentally changing and companies and industries require skills that are not being taught in the classroom. There are skills that educators and leaders today need to learn to stay ahead of the technology curve. Schools that correctly understand this trend of social and emotional learning will not only train searchers, but also creators of ideas and solvers.
